Aguero named in drug trafficking investigation, but no charges

Former star footballer Sergio Aguero has been named in an ongoing investigation in Argentina into allegations of international drug trafficking and money laundering. However, according to court documents, Aguero has not been charged or indicted in the case and no evidence has been found to bring charges against him.

The investigation, overseen by Judge Pablo Yadarola, is mainly looking into how a suspected gang tried to use Aguero's name and popularity in a commercial plan.

The investigation documents show that the suspects were planning to launch a ticketing platform called 'Crew Tickets' centered around Aguero's e-sports club. Messages from mobile phones and various documents seized by law enforcement agencies showed multiple discussions about the project.

Investigators believe that the gang tried to use Aguero's name and image, which is known worldwide, to gain large commercial benefits. Police have arrested several people suspected of involvement in the incident. One of them, Pivot Alvarez, is said to have been on hunger strike since his arrest.

According to the case file, on January 30, 2026, Diego Francisco Anzalni sent a message to De Carlucci, saying that he expected to soon finalize a deal with Aguero for the ticketing platform. In the conversations that followed over the next few weeks, plans to operate the project through multiple companies also emerged.

The investigation suspects that the gang may have links to the trafficking of cocaine from Bolivia and synthetic drugs from Spain. The investigation file also mentions that some of their activities were carried out from a facility on Ricardo Bocchini Street, near the Independiente stadium in the city of Avellaneda.

However, most importantly, the court file does not contain any information about any charges against Sergio Aguero so far. The fact that his name appears in the investigation appears to be mainly related to the suspects' attempts to use his identity and image in their commercial plans.
