Bangladesh Suffer Innings Defeat to Australia

Bangladesh suffered a heavy defeat in the Mackay Test as Australia won by an innings and 51 runs to level the two-match Test series 1-1.

After their historic victory in Darwin, Bangladesh failed to carry that momentum into the second Test. The visitors were bowled out for just 64 in the first innings and struggled again in the second, collapsing for only 95.

It was the first time in Bangladesh's Test history that they had been bowled out for fewer than 100 runs in both innings of the same match.

Starting their second innings 146 runs behind, Bangladesh went to the first interval at 39 for 3. However, the collapse continued after the break, with the visitors losing five wickets for just 31 runs and effectively losing their chance of saving the match.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto top-scored with 31 before his dismissal triggered another collapse. Litton Das then fell to Mitchell Starc without scoring, extending an unwanted run of three consecutive innings in which he was dismissed for a duck.

While Bangladesh's batting failed once again, left-arm pacer Shariful Islam produced a memorable performance with the ball.

Shariful, who had taken six wickets on the opening day, completed his seven-wicket haul on the second morning by dismissing Cameron Green for 67 with an inswinging yorker that trapped the Australian batter lbw.

He finished with remarkable figures of 7 for 48, setting a new record for the best bowling figures by a Bangladeshi pace bowler in a Test match overseas.

However, Shariful's outstanding effort could not prevent Bangladesh from suffering a heavy defeat. With the batters unable to put up a fight in either innings, Australia completed an innings-and-51-run victory.

Bangladesh had taken the lead in the series after their memorable win in Darwin, but Australia bounced back strongly in Mackay to level the series 1-1.
