Brian Lara now demands better treatment for Imran Khan, says 'it's a question of humanity'

Former and current stars of the cricket world are standing by Imran Khan one by one. West Indies batting legend Brian Lara has now spoken out demanding that the imprisoned legendary captain and former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, be given proper medical treatment and humane treatment.

Former West Indies captain Lara has made an emotional statement expressing solidarity with the call of former captains of various countries around the world and current Australian captain Pat Cummins.

Lara, recalling the memory of facing Imran on the field, wrote, 'Imran Khan and I have had the opportunity to meet face to face on the field a handful of times. The respect I developed for him in that short time was everlasting.

Regarding Imran's influence on his playing career, Lara further wrote, "It is truly difficult to accept how someone who was once a symbol of hope, pride and inspiration for his country, at the peak of his playing career, has found himself in a situation where he is not getting even the minimum care, compassion or respect he deserves."

Lara also supported the demands of other former captains regarding Imran's treatment. He said, "I also demand appropriate and individual treatment for him, expressing solidarity with other former captains. The dignity he deserves as a human being must also be ensured."

Calling for the issue not to be viewed politically, Lara made a clear statement, "This is not politics. This is a question of very simple humanity for a legend of our game."

Imran Khan left cricket after winning the World Cup with Pakistan in 1992 and entered politics. He also served as the Prime Minister of Pakistan from 2018 to 2022. After being removed from power, Imran has been in prison for about three and a half years after being convicted in corruption and other cases. However, he has been claiming that all the charges brought against him are politically motivated.

Earlier, 23 former captains of Australia, India, England, New Zealand, South Africa and West Indies wrote a letter to Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif demanding good treatment for Imran. After that, stars like former Pakistani cricketers Javed Miandad and Moin Khan also spoke publicly in Imran's favor.
