Cummins stands by Imran, demands treatment and family meeting for imprisoned former captain

Australia's current Test captain Pat Cummins has stood by former Pakistan captain and Prime Minister Imran Khan. He has demanded that the imprisoned Imran be given proper medical treatment and regular access to his family members. Cummins is the first captain in his playing career to speak directly about Imran.

Pakistan's 1992 World Cup-winning captain Imran Khan has been in jail for more than three years. On August 24, 21 former international captains wrote a letter to Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, urging him to be given medical treatment and minimum facilities. Cummins also expressed his support for the letter.

The letter was signed by former captains Michael Atherton, Allan Border, Mike Brearley, Greg Chappell, Ian Chappell, Alastair Cook, Mike Gatting, Sunil Gavaskar, Adam Gilchrist, David Gower, Nasser Hussain, Clive Lloyd, Kapil Dev, Arjuna Ranatunga, Andrew Strauss, Dilip Vengsarkar, Steve Waugh and John Wright. Women's cricket legends Belinda Clarke and Alex Blackwell are also among them.

Explaining the reason behind the letter on Australia's 'The Grade Cricketer' program, Greg Chappell highlighted Imran's current physical and mental condition. He claimed that the 73-year-old Imran has been suffering from loneliness and various physical problems for a long time.

According to Chappell, being isolated from family and normal life for a long time can have a serious impact on a person's mental health. He also spoke about the need to ensure that Imran gets the necessary medical treatment and facilities.

Sharing the video of Chappell's speech on his X account, Cummins wrote, "I also express my support to Greg Chappell and other former international captains."

Cummins also said that he hopes that Imran gets proper medical treatment as per the court's orders and continues to have the opportunity to meet his family members. In his words, Imran Khan should be treated with the dignity that every human being deserves.

Cummins' public stance on Imran has sparked a new discussion in the cricket world.
