Paris Saint-Germain made a flying start to their Champions League campaign with a convincing 5-1 victory over Slovakian club Slovan Bratislava. The biggest star of the night was Ferran Torres, who marked his Champions League debut for PSG with a stunning hat-trick.
Just a day before the match, Torres had attracted attention after a relaxed image of him sitting shirtless with a phone near PSG’s training ground circulated on social media. A day later, the Spanish forward responded on the pitch with a remarkable performance.
Torres scored three goals between the 31st and 57th minutes, completing his hat-trick within just 26 minutes and helping the reigning champions secure a comfortable victory.
PSG, however, started the match with Ousmane Dembele leading the attack. The French forward opened the scoring in the 17th minute after Nuno Mendes’ powerful effort came back off the post. Dembele reacted quickly to the rebound and fired the ball into the net.
Dembele came close to adding another goal shortly afterwards, but his effort went just wide. He did not have to wait long, though, as he doubled PSG’s lead in the 23rd minute.
The 18-year-old midfielder Dro Fernandez delivered an excellent cross from the right, and Dembele headed the ball into the net to make it 2-0.
Dembele then turned provider. His floated delivery created the opportunity for Torres, who produced an excellent finish to score his first goal of the night.
The Spanish forward then took centre stage. Torres added two more goals between the 31st and 57th minutes to complete a hat-trick on his Champions League debut.
Fabian Ruiz later added another goal for PSG, while Slovan Bratislava managed to score once. The result, however, was never in serious doubt as PSG controlled the match from start to finish.
The 5-1 victory gives the reigning European champions an impressive start as they begin their pursuit of a third consecutive Champions League title.
Elsewhere in the Champions League, Barcelona also recorded a 5-1 victory over Feyenoord. Arsenal defeated Napoli 1-0, while Liverpool secured a win over Atletico Madrid. Sporting CP also beat Galatasaray 3-1.
