Manchester City Beat Manchester United 1-0 in Derby Despite Playing With 10 Men

Manchester City defeated Manchester United 1-0 in the first Manchester derby of the season at Old Trafford, securing a remarkable victory despite being reduced to 10 men. Erling Haaland scored the decisive goal in the second half as City maintained their perfect start to the Premier League season.

City have now won all four of their league matches, collecting 12 points and sitting second in the table. Arsenal lead the standings on the same number of points thanks to a superior goal difference.

United, meanwhile, suffered another setback in the Premier League despite their impressive Champions League victory last week. They have collected just four points from four matches and sit 13th after one win, one draw and two defeats.

A Fiery Start to the Manchester Derby

The derby was intense from the opening minutes, with the first free-kick coming within the opening minute. Harry Maguire was also involved in a heavy challenge on Ryan Cherki shortly afterwards.

There were seven fouls between the two teams during the opening 20 minutes, setting the tone for a fiercely contested match.

The biggest incident of the first half came in the 23rd minute.

United captain Bruno Fernandes challenged Phil Foden during a battle for possession. Foden went down, and the situation quickly escalated. The City midfielder was eventually shown a straight red card after kicking out at an opponent while on the ground.

City strongly protested the referee's decision, but the red card stood, leaving them with 10 players for most of the match.

United Waste Their Chances

With an extra player, United tried to take control of the game and create pressure. Their best chance of the first half came just before the break when Marcus Rashford curled a free-kick from around 25 yards.

The effort beat Gianluigi Donnarumma but narrowly missed the post.

United came close again shortly after halftime. Kobbie Mainoo's long-range effort in the 52nd minute struck the post, leaving United frustrated once more.

Haaland Produces the Match-Winning Moment

City threatened in the 69th minute, but United goalkeeper Senne Lammens made an excellent save to deny a powerful effort that eventually struck the post.

Just moments later, City found the breakthrough.

A cross from the left took a deflection off a United player before falling to Haaland. The Norwegian striker controlled the ball and produced a superb finish from a difficult angle to put City ahead.

The goal was initially ruled out for offside, but a VAR review overturned the decision and awarded the goal.

With that strike, City finally had the lead despite being down to 10 men.

Haaland has now scored in three consecutive Premier League matches and four straight games in all competitions.

The goal was his eighth in Manchester derbies. He now has four Premier League goals this season and six across all competitions.

United pushed desperately for an equaliser late in the match. In the final minute of stoppage time, Bruno Fernandes found Bryan Mbeumo, who created space and unleashed a powerful effort.

But Donnarumma produced another outstanding save to preserve City's lead and secure all three points.

United Dominate Possession but Fail to Finish

United had more possession and created more attacking pressure, but once again their finishing let them down.

They attempted 16 shots throughout the match but managed only three on target. City, despite playing with 10 men, registered six shots, with two finding the target.

In the end, Haaland's second-half strike was enough to settle the Manchester derby.

Manchester City leave Old Trafford with a 1-0 victory, maintaining their perfect Premier League record and delivering another painful defeat to Manchester United.
