Messi Scores Brilliant Goal but Inter Miami Held to 2–2 Draw by Nashville

Lionel Messi did his part once again. The Argentine superstar scored a spectacular goal and played a key role in another, but his individual brilliance was not enough to give Inter Miami all three points.

Inter Miami were held to a 2–2 draw by Nashville in Major League Soccer at Nu Stadium. Despite taking the lead in the second half, Miami conceded a late equaliser and had to settle for a point.

Messi Scores a Stunning Goal

Messi put Inter Miami ahead in the 62nd minute after receiving a pass from Rodrigo De Paul. From outside the box, he produced a superb left-footed strike that gave the Nashville goalkeeper little chance.

The goal put Miami 2–1 ahead and appeared to have put them on course for victory.

But Nashville had the final say.

In the first minute of stoppage time, English striker Sam Surridge scored again to make it 2–2 and deny Miami the win.

Messi Could Have Scored More

Messi's performance could easily have produced more than one goal.

In the 50th minute, one of his efforts struck the underside of the crossbar before bouncing away. Another attempt hit the post in the 78th minute.

Late in the match, a further Messi shot was headed clear by Nashville defender Jason Palacios.

The Argentine also missed a relatively straightforward opportunity in the second half.

In other words, Messi was involved in almost everything dangerous that Inter Miami produced.

Miami Fell Behind Early

Nashville made the better start.

In the fourth minute, Sam Surridge beat the offside trap and scored to put the visitors 1–0 ahead.

Miami equalised in the 19th minute, with Messi again involved.

His curling corner struck Nashville defender Reid Baker Whiting and changed direction before ending up in the back of Nashville's own net.

Messi then gave Miami the lead in the second half, but the hosts were unable to protect it until the final whistle.

Messi's Remarkable Record Against Nashville

Messi's individual record against Nashville remains impressive.

Since joining Inter Miami, he has now scored 17 goals against Nashville in 14 matches across all competitions.

However, Miami's team record against Nashville tells a very different story.

They have now played Nashville four times this season without winning any of those matches. Nashville also knocked Miami out of the Concacaf Champions Cup earlier in the campaign.

Miami's Biggest Problem: Losing Leads

Inter Miami have repeatedly struggled to turn leads into victories this season.

They have already dropped 11 points from winning positions at home, with only New York City and Montreal having dropped more.

The latest draw followed the same pattern: Messi produced a moment of brilliance, Miami took control of the game, but the team could not hold on until the end.

Nashville Still Nine Points Ahead

After the draw, Nashville remain nine points ahead of Inter Miami in the Eastern Conference, with nine matches left in the season.

Messi continues to deliver individual moments of brilliance, but Miami's lack of consistency is becoming increasingly concerning.

If they cannot find a way to protect their leads and close out matches, those dropped points could prove costly as the season enters its decisive stage.
