Pakistan Face Innings Defeat Threat in Three Days as Ollie Robinson Strikes Twice

Pakistan are staring at the possibility of an innings defeat in just three days in the Edgbaston Test after a dominant display from England and another outstanding spell from Ollie Robinson.

After England posted a massive 453 in the first innings, Pakistan were bowled out for just 133, leaving them 320 runs behind. Their problems deepened immediately in the second innings as Robinson struck with the very first ball.

The England seamer dismissed Saim Ayub with a catch at second slip before removing Abdullah Shafique three balls later, with Joe Root taking the catch at first slip. Pakistan were suddenly reduced to 0 for 2.

Saim Ayub, who was rushed back from the CPL to join Pakistan's squad, failed to score in either innings. Robinson, meanwhile, finished the day with two wickets for 10 runs from six overs, including three maidens.

Robinson's wicket tally in the series has now reached 21, with an astonishing bowling average of just 6.66. His performances have been a major factor behind England's dominance in the series.

Rain brought an early end to the second day's play, with Pakistan finishing on 52 for 2 in their second innings. They still trail England by 268 runs, meaning an innings defeat inside three days is now a very real possibility.

Pakistan debutant Razaullah claimed four wickets in England's first innings, but his effort was not enough to prevent the hosts from reaching 453.

At the close of play, Shan Masood was unbeaten on 21 and Aazan Owais on 29. Pakistan's immediate target on the third day will be to erase the 268-run deficit and force England to bat again.

Earlier, England resumed the second day on 156 for 4 and added another 297 runs. Emilio Gay scored 60 and Harry Brook made 75 after both had reached half-centuries on the opening day.

Jamie Smith then made 69, Dan Lawrence scored 65 and Robinson contributed a valuable 50. Jofra Archer added further momentum late in the innings with an unbeaten 32 off 27 balls.

England's huge first-innings total has now left Pakistan facing a desperate battle to avoid an innings defeat within three days.
