Saka Goal Gives Arsenal Second Straight Premier League Win

Arsenal continued their perfect start to the Premier League season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park on Monday.

Bukayo Saka scored the only goal of the match as Mikel Arteta's side secured their second consecutive league win.

Arsenal dominated possession throughout the game, but neither side produced much in front of goal. Both teams managed seven shots, although Arsenal had two efforts on target while Villa failed to register a single shot on target.

The first half was largely controlled by Arsenal, but the visitors struggled to turn their possession into clear chances. They attempted four shots, none of which tested the goalkeeper, while Villa's three efforts were also off target.

Arsenal finally broke the deadlock in the 59th minute. Ricardo Calafiori delivered the ball into the box from the left byline, and Saka reacted quickly to slide in and finish from close range despite pressure from a Villa defender.

It was Saka's second Premier League goal of the season. The England forward had also scored in Arsenal's opening league match against Coventry City. It marked his first time scoring in consecutive Premier League games since November 2024.

Arsenal had a chance to double their lead in the 75th minute. Bruno Guimaraes released Kai Havertz with an excellent through ball, but Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki came off his line at the right moment to deny the German forward in a one-on-one situation.

Villa were unable to find an equaliser, allowing Saka's goal to decide the contest.

The victory gives Arsenal six points from two Premier League matches, putting them second in the table behind Manchester City on goal difference. Hull City and Chelsea also have six points.

Arsenal's defensive record has been equally impressive. They have played three competitive matches this season without conceding a goal. After beating Manchester City 3-0 in the FA Community Shield, Arteta's side opened their league campaign with another 3-0 victory, this time against Coventry City.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, have endured a difficult start after losing several important players. Following their UEFA Super Cup defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, they have now suffered defeats in both of their opening Premier League matches.

Arsenal have also struggled for consistency against Villa in recent Premier League meetings, particularly at Villa Park. They survived another scare on Monday when Emiliano Buendia's long-range effort from around 25 yards struck the crossbar.

But Saka's decisive finish ultimately gave Arsenal all three points from another difficult trip to Villa Park.
