Trump Calls Iran a ‘Dead and Failed State’, Demands Leaders Face Trial

US President Donald Trump has described Iran as a “dead and failed state” and called for the country's leaders to face trial for alleged crimes against humanity.

In a post on Truth Social on Monday, Trump launched a strong attack on Iran's government and criticized the country's overall political, military and economic situation.

Trump claimed that more than 100,000 protesters had been killed during anti-government demonstrations in Iran and argued that the country's leaders should face trial for alleged war crimes against humanity. However, the source of Trump's latest figure was not immediately clear, and the claim has not been independently verified.

Trump also claimed that Iran is struggling to maintain its military and security forces, while its economy and currency have deteriorated severely. He further alleged that Iran has no effective navy or air force and that inflation has reached 300 percent.

His remarks came amid a renewed escalation in the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran.

Hours before Trump's statement, US forces reportedly struck two missile-launch systems on Iran's Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz. Washington said the targets were preparing to launch rockets carrying naval mines into the strategic waterway.

Iran responded by launching missiles at a US military base in Jordan. The attack demonstrated Tehran's willingness and ability to retaliate against American forces in the region.

Trump subsequently pledged to respond to Iran's latest attack, raising concerns that the conflict could continue to escalate.

Since the beginning of the war, Trump has repeatedly claimed that Iran's governing system is close to collapse. However, Iran's leadership has remained in place without a major political split or mass defections, while the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps continues to play a central role in the conflict.

Trump has also previously accused Iranian authorities of killing tens of thousands of protesters. Earlier this year, he cited an estimated figure of around 60,000 deaths. His latest claim of more than 100,000 represents a significant increase, although he did not explain how the new figure was obtained.

Iranian authorities, meanwhile, have reported 3,117 deaths linked to the protests, including members of the security forces. Tehran has blamed what it describes as Israel-backed rioters for the deaths.

Both sides have also accused each other of violating the rules of war. Iran has accused the United States of targeting civilians during the conflict. On the first day of the fighting, a girls' school in Minab in southern Iran was reportedly struck, with 168 people said to have been killed, most of them children.

Trump's latest remarks and Iran's retaliation have increased fears of a wider and more prolonged confrontation in the region, with the international community closely watching the next developments.
