West Indies Celebrate Double Success in ICC Player of the Month Awards

West Indies celebrated a remarkable double in the ICC Player of the Month awards for July, with Justin Greaves winning the men’s award and Hayley Matthews taking the women’s honour.

Greaves beat Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan and England batter Harry Brook to claim the men’s award after an outstanding month in Test cricket.

The 32-year-old all-rounder produced a brilliant 180 off 325 balls against Sri Lanka and also contributed with the ball. He then delivered a stunning performance against Pakistan, taking 5 wickets for just 27 runs in the first innings before adding two more wickets in the second.

Across two Tests in July, Greaves scored 215 runs and claimed 8 wickets, earning both the Player and Series awards during West Indies’ successful campaign.

In the women’s category, captain Hayley Matthews was rewarded for her dominant all-round performance in West Indies’ 3-0 ODI series win over Ireland. She scored 265 runs at an average of 132.50 and also took 7 wickets, including two centuries and two Player of the Match performances.

The achievement marks the first time West Indies have had both the men’s and women’s ICC Player of the Month winners in the same month since the award was introduced in 2021.
