Zheng Qinwen Stuns Iga Swiatek After Another Incredible Comeback at US Open

Zheng Qinwen is producing one of the most remarkable comeback stories of this year’s US Open. For the second consecutive match, the Chinese star recovered from 0-5 down to win a set—and this time, she did it against six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek.

After securing the championship point, Zheng threw her racket away and lay flat on her back on the court, seemingly unable to believe what she had just achieved. The 23-year-old had completed another extraordinary comeback, just one day after pulling off a similar escape against Madison Keys.

Zheng fell 0-5 behind in the opening set against Swiatek in the fourth round. But instead of giving in, she won seven games in a row to take the set 7-5. She then maintained her momentum in the second set, winning it 6-3 to seal a stunning straight-set victory.

The 7-5, 6-3 win sent Zheng into the US Open quarter-finals and marked her seventh consecutive victory at the tournament. She had already won three qualifying matches to reach the main draw and has continued her impressive run ever since.

Just a day earlier, Zheng had produced another remarkable comeback against Madison Keys. Trailing 0-5 in the deciding third set, she won seven consecutive games to complete the turnaround and reach the fourth round.

Her US Open resurgence is particularly impressive considering the struggles she faced earlier in the year. After undergoing elbow surgery in July 2025, the Olympic champion had been fighting to regain her best form. She even dropped outside the world’s top 100 earlier this year.

Now, Zheng is once again closing in on the top 50 in the rankings after her stunning run in New York.

She will face either Naomi Osaka or Elena Rybakina in the quarter-finals as she continues her bid for a maiden Grand Slam title.
