Bangladeshi actress questions media accountability and responds sharply to online critics during Facebook Live

Dhallywood actress Pori Moni has expressed anger over the circulation of an objectionable video allegedly created using artificial intelligence (AI). Speaking during a Facebook Live session, the actress questioned the responsibility of the media outlet involved in publishing the content and criticised people who continued to share or search for the video online.

Her central message was that simply apologising does not necessarily resolve the consequences of an incident, particularly when it involves a platform expected to act responsibly.

“Sorry is a huge thing, a huge balm. Just saying sorry does not make everything go away,” Pori Moni said during the live broadcast.

According to reports, an objectionable AI-generated video featuring her was published on the Instagram account of Maasranga Television, prompting widespread discussion on social media. Pori Moni addressed the controversy during a Facebook Live session late Friday night.

Pori Moni Claims the Video Had Circulated Earlier

Pori Moni claimed that the video was not new to her. According to the actress, people had sent it to her through WhatsApp around one to one-and-a-half years earlier.

However, she suggested that its publication through a verified media outlet's social media account brought the content to a much wider audience.

“Since these things were published from a verified, important platform, they circulated. Then everyone saw them,” she said.

The actress also raised concerns about the misuse of AI technology to create objectionable content using someone's face. She criticised the growing curiosity surrounding such videos and the tendency to circulate them further without considering their impact on the person involved.

Actress Responds to Online Critics

Pori Moni also expressed frustration with people discussing the video on social media. She claimed that some users were asking for links to the content in the comments sections of other people's posts.

In her view, such behaviour raises concerns about how people treat another person's dignity and privacy online. She criticised the tendency to turn objectionable AI-generated content into a source of entertainment or curiosity.

Her comments highlighted the distinction between discussing a controversial incident and actively helping its circulation.

Questions Raised Over Media Accountability

The actress questioned the responsibility of the media organisation whose Instagram account reportedly published the video.

Pori Moni argued that organisations expected to follow professional standards should be held accountable when objectionable content appears on their official platforms.

She also alleged that the video was not removed as quickly as it could have been. In her view, the content could have been taken down sooner.

Asked about possible legal action, Pori Moni indicated that she did not want to pursue a lawsuit. However, she said she wanted to respond to the criticism and personal attacks directed at her following the incident.

‘If You Insult Me, I Will Respond’

During the Facebook Live session, Pori Moni delivered a sharp response to her critics, saying she would respond directly to people who insulted her.

“If you abuse me, I will abuse you back. If you slap me once, I will slap you 14 times,” she said.

While discussing the public's excessive interest in the video, the actress also referred to bikinis, transparent clothing and nude photoshoots to express her frustration with the attention surrounding her appearance and the controversy.

She added that the situation became more upsetting after she faced attacks related to the incident in her professional environment.

Towards the end of the live session, Pori Moni urged her critics to focus on their own lives.

“Focus on your life! Get a life, honey,” she said.
