Bangladesh HP beats Northern Territory in Rubel's whirlwind to reach semifinals

Mohammad Rubel continued his excellent bowling in the Top End T20. With his brilliant five-wicket haul, Bangladesh HP defeated Northern Territory Strike by 3 wickets. With this win, Bangladesh became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament.

Northern Territory won the toss and decided to bat first at the Marara Ground in Darwin. But Rubel proved their decision wrong from the start. The off-spinner struck first in the second over of the innings, removing Harshtik Bimbral. In his next over, he trapped another opener, Jaga Koduru, LBW.

Rubel then bowled Dautzie Hugenbosem to reduce Northern Territory to 3 for 34 runs. Later, he removed Matt Hammond and Wes Agar to complete his five wickets.

Northern Territory finally scored 143 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs. Jordan Silk scored the highest 31 runs for the team. Matt Hammond batted 26 runs.

Rubel took 5 wickets for just 21 runs in 4 overs for Bangladesh HP. Samiun Basir, Rakibul Hasan, Mehrab Hasan and Mrityunjay Chowdhury got one wicket each. Rubel's total wickets in six matches in Top End T20 are now 20.

Chasing a target of 144 runs, Bangladesh did not start well either. Ariful Islam returned within 20 runs. Habibur Rahman Sohan was out for 41 runs for the team. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Sabbir Rahman kept the team on the path to victory by keeping one end in front.

Sabbir, despite raising the possibility of a half-century, finally returned with 47 runs off 37 balls. Then, with the small contributions of Shamim Hossain's 11, Irfan Shukkur's unbeaten 17 and Samiun Basir's 14 runs, Bangladesh reached the target with 10 balls to spare.

With this win, Bangladesh HP has strengthened their position in the points table. Irfan Shukkur's team has 10 points with five wins and one loss in six matches. They have also become the first team in the tournament to secure a ticket to the semi-finals.
