Dembele Scores After Penalty Miss as PSG Beat Strasbourg 3-1
Paris Saint-Germain recovered from a difficult start to beat Strasbourg 3-1 in Ligue 1 on Saturday, with Ousmane Dembele scoring after missing a penalty. Desire Doue and Illia Zabarnyi also found the net as the French champions turned the game around late in the second half.
PSG trailed 1-0 until the 76th minute before Zabarnyi equalised from a Dembele cross. Dembele then put the visitors ahead with a low shot from 16 yards with five minutes remaining in normal time. Doue sealed the victory in the third minute of stoppage time.
Dembele had missed a penalty in the 72nd minute, sending his spot kick wide. However, he quickly made amends by setting up Zabarnyi's equaliser just four minutes later.
Strasbourg took the lead in the 17th minute when a shot from Reiner deflected off an opponent and found the net. The hosts had further opportunities to extend their advantage, but PSG goalkeeper Matvei Safonov produced an impressive performance to keep his side in the contest.
PSG head coach Luis Enrique made eight changes to the starting lineup from Wednesday's 4-2 Champions League victory over Manchester City. He introduced five key players, including Dembele and Doue, in the second half, and the substitutions played a decisive role in the comeback.
The victory marked PSG's sixth consecutive win across all competitions. With four wins and two draws from seven Ligue 1 matches, the reigning champions moved to the top of the table with 14 points. Monaco also have 14 points but sit second because of an inferior goal difference.
