Real Madrid Complete Stunning Comeback to Beat Roma 4-3

Roma 3-4 Real Madrid

Real Madrid produced a sensational late comeback to beat Roma 4-3 in a thrilling Champions League encounter, scoring twice in the final seven minutes to turn a two-goal deficit into a dramatic victory.

Roma started aggressively and created the first real danger in the fifth minute when Paulo Dybala's cross led to a chance for Mario Hermoso, but Thibaut Courtois kept Real Madrid out.

The hosts eventually took the lead in the 20th minute. Dutch midfielder Marten de Roon fired a powerful effort from outside the box to make it 1-0.

Real Madrid responded almost immediately. Roma lost possession in their own half, allowing Kylian Mbappe to advance and fire towards goal. The shot took a slight deflection off a defender before finding the net to make it 1-1.

Roma regained control after the break and struck twice in six minutes. Donny Malen restored their lead in the 51st minute after taking advantage of a mistake involving Vinicius Junior and finishing from close range.

Malen then doubled his tally in the 57th minute. Matias Soule's defence-splitting pass released him inside the box, and the Dutch forward calmly finished his one-on-one chance to put Roma 3-1 ahead.

With Real Madrid two goals down, the visitors made a double substitution, bringing on Endrick and Arda Guler. The changes gradually increased the intensity of Real's attack.

Their comeback began in the 83rd minute. Guler delivered a dangerous cross, and Federico Valverde's header was saved by the Roma goalkeeper. However, substitute Espi reacted quickest to the loose ball and scored. The goal was initially ruled offside but was awarded after a VAR review.

Real Madrid then completed the comeback through another Guler set piece. His corner found Brazilian youngster Endrick, who rose highest to head the ball into the net and make it 3-3.

The winning goal arrived in the final minute of normal time. Guler again provided the delivery from a corner, and Antonio Rudiger reacted inside the crowded penalty area to turn the ball home and complete a remarkable 4-3 comeback.

Roma could not find a response in the remaining minutes. Real Madrid celebrated an extraordinary victory, while the hosts were left devastated after seeing a two-goal advantage disappear in the closing stages.

The statistics reflected the intensity of the contest. Roma enjoyed around 55 percent possession and registered 14 shots, with seven on target. Real Madrid finished with 16 shots, eight of them on target, after mounting relentless pressure during the final half-hour.

The victory gives Real Madrid two wins from two Champions League matches and six points, placing them eighth on goal difference. PSG sit top with the same number of points. Roma, meanwhile, have one point from two matches and are 25th.
