Neymar Emotional Over Messi Farewell: ‘It Was an Honor to Be Part of History With You’

Lionel Messi’s final match for Argentina has prompted emotional tributes from across the football world. Among those paying tribute is his close friend and former teammate Neymar, who shared a heartfelt message ahead of Messi’s international farewell.

The Brazilian star also posted several photos with Messi, including a memorable image from the 2021 Copa América final.

Neymar Remembers Making History With Messi

Neymar began his message by reflecting on what Messi has meant to football fans around the world.

“Those who love football have had the opportunity to enjoy you for so many years,” Neymar wrote.

Their relationship goes beyond friendship. The two shared the pitch for several seasons at club level, first at Barcelona from 2013 to 2017.

Alongside Luis Suárez, Messi and Neymar formed the famous attacking trio known as MSN, one of the most celebrated front threes in modern football.

The trio helped Barcelona win nine trophies, including the 2015 Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup.

Neymar also shared a photo from the 2021 Copa América final, when Argentina defeated Brazil 1-0 at the Maracanã to win a major international trophy after 28 years. It was also Messi’s first major international title with Argentina.

Messi and Neymar Reunited at PSG

After their Barcelona chapter ended, Messi and Neymar reunited at Paris Saint-Germain in 2021.

The two spent two seasons together in Paris and won two Ligue 1 titles and one French Super Cup.

Messi left PSG in June 2023 to join Inter Miami, bringing another chapter of their club partnership to an end.

Across Barcelona and PSG, Messi and Neymar played 206 matches together, sharing goals, trophies and countless memorable moments along the way.

‘Thank You for Making Us Love Football Even More’

Ahead of Messi’s final international appearance, Neymar wrote:

“Today is the last match in your country, in your national team shirt. I hope you enjoy every second. May all the respect and love today bring you happiness.”

Neymar also emphasized that Messi’s influence extends far beyond Argentina.

“For everything you have done for football, not only Argentina but the whole world is grateful to you,” the Brazilian forward wrote.

He then delivered one of his most emotional messages to his friend:

“Thank you for making us love football even more. It was an honor to play against you, and an even greater honor to be part of history with you.”

Messi’s Farewell, Neymar’s Tribute

Neymar will not be on the pitch for Messi’s final match for Argentina, but his emotional tribute shows how meaningful the moment is to those who shared Messi’s journey.

Messi’s farewell is not only significant for Argentina. His remarkable international career and influence on football have made his final appearance an emotional moment for fans around the world.

Neymar’s message captures that feeling perfectly: Messi’s farewell represents not only the end of an international chapter, but also the closing of a remarkable era in football history.
