Fire Breaks Out at Mumbai Film City, What We Know About Ramayana Set

A fire broke out at a temporary structure used for filming at Mumbai’s Goregaon Film City on Monday afternoon, causing damage to electrical equipment and other production materials.

The incident was initially linked by several reports to Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated film ‘Ramayana’. However, the film’s team later clarified that the fire did not occur on the movie’s set.

How Did the Fire Start?

According to information from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Mumbai Fire Brigade, authorities received a fire alert at around 4:02 pm on Monday.

The incident took place near Reliance MediaWorks in Film City, Goregaon East, behind Prime Focus Studios. A temporary structure built for filming caught fire and the incident was classified as a Level-One fire.

According to the fire brigade’s preliminary report, the fire was largely confined to a PCR, or Production Control Room, within the temporary structure.

Electrical wiring and installations, cables, doors, wooden planks, air-conditioning equipment, bamboo, plastic materials, sound systems and other filming equipment were damaged.

Fire Brought Under Control in About an Hour

Mumbai Fire Brigade personnel rushed to the location after receiving the alert. Police, BMC’s ward control team and 108 ambulance service personnel also attended the scene.

The fire was brought under control at around 4:55 pm, after nearly an hour of firefighting efforts. Authorities confirmed that no one was injured.

B. N. Tiwari, president of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), said the fire broke out in a tent outside the studio. He said the quick response helped prevent major damage and casualties.

According to him, the damage was relatively minor and filming resumed after the situation returned to normal.

Did the Fire Affect the ‘Ramayana’ Set?

Videos of the fire quickly circulated on social media, leading to reports linking the incident to Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’.

Several early reports claimed that the temporary structure involved in the fire was connected to the film’s production.

However, the ‘Ramayana’ team later confirmed that the fire did not take place on the film’s set.

The Free Press Journal reported that it contacted members of the ‘Ramayana’ team, who confirmed that the movie’s set was not affected.

At the same time, some reports stated that ‘Ramayana’ was being filmed at the Prime Focus Studios premises and that the fire occurred in a temporary structure outside the studio.

As a result, reports have differed over the exact connection between the fire location and the film’s production. The precise cause of the fire has also not yet been established.

Other Productions Also Affected

MTV reality show ‘Hustle 5’ and ‘Pati Patni Aur Panga 2’ were also reportedly being filmed in the same area.

The fire disrupted production of the two shows, according to several reports.

Some reports claimed that the fire started on the set of ‘Pati Patni Aur Panga 2’ before spreading toward the ‘Hustle 5’ set. Other reports said filming for ‘Pati Patni Aur Panga 2’ was taking place when the incident occurred.

However, reports have not been consistent, and there has been no official statement from the producers confirming the extent of damage to either set.

‘Ramayana’ Remains One of India’s Most Anticipated Films

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, ‘Ramayana’ is among the most highly anticipated Indian films in recent years.

Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi portrays Sita, while Yash plays Ravana. Sunny Deol stars as Hanuman, Ravi Dubey plays Lakshman and Arun Govil portrays King Dasharatha.

The filmmakers recently announced the title of the first installment as ‘Ramayana: Rise of a Legend’. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on November 6.

For now, the film’s team maintains that the recent fire did not occur on the ‘Ramayana’ set. Further details about the exact cause and location of the fire are expected as more information becomes available.
