Barcelona have temporarily suspended the operation of their organised supporters' section, Gol 1957, following a series of disciplinary incidents during the recent El Clásico against Real Madrid.

As a result, the section will remain closed for Saturday's La Liga home match against Deportivo Alavés. Barcelona, however, have made it clear that the suspension is not necessarily permanent. The club plans to meet representatives of the groups that make up Gol 1957, with the aim of resolving the situation and reopening the section for the Champions League match against Aston Villa on November 3.

What Happened During El Clásico?

Barcelona's 2–1 defeat to Real Madrid on October 25 was followed by several incidents involving supporters.

LaLiga referred a total of 17 incidents from the match to the disciplinary authorities and the Anti-Violence Commission. Ten involved Barcelona supporters, while seven were attributed to Real Madrid fans.

The incidents involving Barcelona supporters included offensive chants directed at Real Madrid figures, including coach José Mourinho and defender Marc Cucurella, as well as objects being thrown onto the pitch.

The most serious incident came in the 87th minute after Kylian Mbappé scored Real Madrid's winning goal. Bottles, cans, lighters and a vaping device were thrown from the Gol 1957 area towards the pitch. During the same incident, a Barcelona supporter struck Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga with a flagpole. The match was stopped for around one minute and 20 seconds.

The supporter involved was later identified by police, while Barcelona's security team assisted authorities in identifying those responsible for the incidents.

Why Did Barcelona Close the Entire Section?

Barcelona's decision was not based solely on the incident involving Camavinga. The club said a series of disciplinary proceedings had been opened over behaviour that goes against the values of sport.

According to the club, such incidents could result in financial penalties and even create a risk of partial or full stadium closure. Barcelona therefore decided to temporarily suspend the operation of Gol 1957 while discussions take place with representatives of the supporter groups.

The club has stressed that it wants to preserve the passionate atmosphere created by its supporters, but also expects that support to remain respectful and within the rules.

What Is Gol 1957?

Gol 1957 is the organised supporters' section at Spotify Camp Nou. The name refers to 1957, the year Camp Nou originally opened.

Barcelona previously faced problems with its organised supporter groups. In 2024, the club also closed its animation section following a series of incidents and accumulated fines. The section was later restored after discussions and new commitments between the club and supporter groups.

Barcelona are once again attempting to resolve the situation through dialogue rather than permanently ending the relationship with the supporter groups.

Barcelona Under Pressure on the Pitch Too

The latest controversy comes at a difficult moment for Barcelona on the field.

Hansi Flick's side lost to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League before suffering a 2–1 defeat to Real Madrid in El Clásico. Despite those setbacks, Barcelona remain at the top of the La Liga table.

The club will now look to return to winning ways against Alavés, while also trying to ensure that further incidents from the stands do not create additional disciplinary problems.
