Abhijit Deep Calls for Tricolour March, Fears Arrest
Abhijit Deep, founder of India’s Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), has called for a tricolour march at Central Park in Connaught Place, New Delhi, on October 16. He urged supporters to participate, stating that hoisting the national flag is not a crime.
According to the report, two senior CJP leaders, Sourav Das and Ashutosh Rankar, were arrested after allegedly entering the protest area at Jantar Mantar and hoisting the Indian national flag. They were subsequently placed in five days of judicial custody.
Deep said he could also be arrested following the march but insisted that the possibility would not deter him from proceeding with the planned event.
Police said the organisers had not sought permission to hold the programme at Central Park. With restrictions in place at the venue, uncertainty remains over whether the march will go ahead.
