Abhishek Sharma Tops T20 Ducks List After Breaking Fastest-Century Record

Abhishek Sharma has found himself at the top of two very different T20 records in the same year. Just days after smashing a 30-ball century against Afghanistan, the Indian opener has now set an unwanted record for the most ducks in T20 cricket in a calendar year.

Abhishek was dismissed off the very first ball against Japan in his latest match. The dismissal took his tally of ducks in all forms of T20 cricket this year to 10.

He has now been dismissed without scoring in 10 of his 42 innings in 2026, the most by any player in a single calendar year in T20 cricket.

The number is striking considering that Abhishek has also produced plenty of big scores. He has already registered 10 half-centuries and two centuries during the year.

Abhishek Surpasses Rashid Khan’s Record

Before Abhishek, Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan held the record for the most T20 ducks in a calendar year. Rashid was dismissed for zero nine times in 2019.

Rashid, however, has traditionally been valued more for his all-round contributions and bowling than as a specialist batter.

The list of players with the most T20 ducks in a calendar year also includes Shadab Khan, Herschelle Gibbs and Sunil Narine.

Among the names in the top five, Gibbs stands out as the specialist batter, while several of the others have significant all-round or bowling responsibilities.

Maxwell Has Also Struggled for Runs

Australia’s Glenn Maxwell has been the next most frequent victim of ducks this year after Abhishek.

Maxwell has been dismissed for zero six times in 38 innings in 2026. Other players featuring among the leading names for ducks this year include Samuel Conte, Dushmantha Chameera and Hasan Ali.

Abhishek, however, has moved clear at the top with 10 ducks.

From a 30-Ball Century to a First-Ball Duck

The contrast in Abhishek’s recent performances makes the record even more unusual.

On September 17, the Indian opener smashed a century from just 30 balls against Afghanistan. The innings made him the fastest century-maker among players from full-member nations in T20 cricket.

Only a few days later, he walked back after facing just one delivery against Japan.

With two centuries, 10 fifties and 10 ducks in 42 innings this year, Abhishek’s T20 campaign has produced both spectacular highs and an unwanted record.

The same batter who recently rewrote the record books for the fastest century is now also at the top of the list for most ducks in a calendar year.
