Carlo Ancelotti Provides Injury Update on Raphinha After Brazil Win

Brazil secured an impressive 4-2 victory over Australia at Suncorp Stadium, but the result was overshadowed by concern over Raphinha after the Barcelona forward was substituted following the halftime break.

Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti, however, moved to ease those concerns after the match, insisting that Raphinha did not suffer an injury.

According to the Italian coach, the Barcelona star was taken off because he felt some discomfort and the team did not want to take any unnecessary risks.

“Raphinha is not injured. He just felt some discomfort, so we decided to take him off to avoid taking any risks and give him a chance to rest,” Ancelotti said.

The coach also revealed that a final decision on Raphinha's availability will be made after the medical report. Brazil will then decide whether the forward should return to Barcelona or remain with the national-team squad.

Ancelotti added that he had spoken with Raphinha, who told him: “I’m fine.”

While Raphinha's condition became a concern, Vinicius Junior emerged as one of the main talking points of Brazil's victory. The Real Madrid forward scored and was also trusted to take a penalty.

Explaining the decision, Ancelotti said he wanted Vinicius to take the spot-kick because he had already scored and deserved another opportunity to find the net.

The Brazil coach also defended Vinicius amid recent criticism of his form, insisting that the forward remains an important part of the national team.

“Throughout my football journey, he has always been like this, and he will continue to play an essential role for Brazil in the future. It is true that he is not at his best right now, but he has the ability to change a game on his own, and he showed that again today,” Ancelotti said.

Brazil's victory over Australia therefore brought both a positive result and some relief over Raphinha's condition. The medical assessment will determine whether the Barcelona forward remains with the squad for the next match.
