Five Centuries in One ODI: Historic World Record Set in India-West Indies Clash
One-day international cricket has witnessed a new milestone, with five centuries scored in a single match for the first time in the 55-year history of the format.
The remarkable record was created during the second ODI between India and the West Indies in Guwahati, where three West Indies batters and two Indian stars reached three figures.
West Indies won the toss and elected to bat first, with their top order immediately putting the Indian bowlers under pressure.
John Campbell led the charge with a 68-ball century, finishing with 101. Shai Hope then scored 104 from 94 deliveries, while Amir Jangoo produced an even more aggressive innings, hitting 114 from just 77 balls.
Powered by those three centuries, West Indies posted 405 for seven in 50 overs—their highest-ever ODI total.
India responded strongly during the chase. Rohit Sharma scored a century of his own, making 101, while captain Shubman Gill continued his outstanding innings and moved towards a potential double century.
The five centuries created a record that had never previously been achieved in ODI cricket.
Before this match, four centuries in a single ODI had been recorded on three occasions: Pakistan vs Australia in Lahore in 1998, India vs Australia in Nagpur in 2013, and Pakistan vs Sri Lanka in Hyderabad during the 2023 World Cup.
The Guwahati encounter has now gone beyond all three of those matches, producing the first-ever five-century ODI in cricket history.
