Roberto Carlos Converts to Islam? What the Reports Say

Reports claiming that Brazilian football legend Roberto Carlos has converted to Islam have been circulating across social media and international media outlets. However, the former star has not publicly confirmed that he has changed his religion. For now, the claim should therefore be treated as unconfirmed rather than established fact.

The reports gained renewed attention following comments from Turkish ruling AK Party lawmaker Ali Sahin. After meeting representatives of the Muslim community in São Paulo, Brazil, Sahin wrote on X that “legendary footballer Roberto Carlos is now a Muslim.”

Sahin also congratulated Carlos on what he described as his conversion and expressed his wishes for peace, good health and prosperity for the former footballer and his family.

The claim was subsequently picked up by several Turkish media outlets. According to a report by Goal.com, the reports about Carlos converting to Islam were largely based on statements attributed to Sheikh Jihad Hammadah and Turkish parliamentarian Ali Sahin.

However, the key point remains that Roberto Carlos himself has yet to publicly confirm the reported conversion. Until an official statement comes from Carlos, the claim cannot be treated as confirmed news.

Marriage to a Moroccan-Origin Woman Fuels Fresh Attention

The reports about Carlos’s alleged conversion also emerged alongside renewed attention surrounding his personal life. The Brazilian football icon has married Suheila El Tahiri, a Spanish citizen of Moroccan origin.

Suheila works as a FIFA-licensed football agent and is involved in players’ professional careers as well as various football-related projects. Reports suggest that her relationship with Carlos initially began on a professional level before eventually developing into a personal relationship.

Their marriage, however, is not a recent development. Details of the wedding first emerged in January. The couple later held a private ceremony on July 25, attended by family members and close friends.

On August 17, photographs from the ceremony began circulating widely on social media, bringing renewed attention to Carlos’s marriage and personal life.

The renewed discussion surrounding his marriage coincided with the spread of claims about his alleged conversion to Islam. However, there is currently no public confirmation from Carlos himself regarding a change of religion.

For that reason, the most accurate position at this stage is clear: claims that Roberto Carlos has converted to Islam are circulating, but the former Brazil star has not personally confirmed them. Until he does so, the report should be regarded as an unverified claim rather than confirmed fact.
