Bayern Munich Held to 3-3 Draw by Viking After Late Goal
Bayern Munich looked set to secure a remarkable comeback victory after recovering from two goals down to take a 3-2 lead. However, Michael Olise’s dismissal changed the course of the match, allowing Norwegian side Viking to snatch a late equaliser and deny the German giants all three points. The UEFA Champions League encounter ended in a 3-3 draw.
Viking made an aggressive start on home soil on Tuesday. Gianni Stensness opened the scoring with a header from a corner after just 72 seconds. Peter Christiansen doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 38th minute, leaving Bayern trailing by two goals at half-time.
Bayern responded strongly after the break. Konrad Laimer won a penalty after being fouled inside the box, and Harry Kane converted from the spot to reduce the deficit. In the 60th minute, the England captain headed home Joshua Kimmich’s cross to bring Bayern level with his second goal of the match.
The visitors continued to push forward, and Luis Diaz put Bayern ahead at 3-2 by finishing a move created by Kane’s clever chip. Having overturned a two-goal deficit, Bayern appeared close to completing the comeback.
But Olise’s dismissal proved costly. After receiving a yellow card for a foul, the French winger threw the ball towards Viking captain Zlatko Tripic and was shown a second yellow card. Bayern were forced to play the final 16 minutes with 10 men.
Viking capitalised on their numerical advantage, with Herman Haugen scoring in the final minute to make it 3-3. The Norwegian side secured a point, while Bayern were left to rue a late setback after coming so close to victory.
