Turkey Sack Vincenzo Montella After Four Consecutive Defeats
Turkey have parted ways with head coach Vincenzo Montella following four consecutive defeats during the latest international break. The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) confirmed on Friday that its executive board had decided to remove the Italian from his position.
The federation did not provide a specific reason for the decision and has yet to announce Montella’s successor.
Turkey endured a disappointing run of results, beginning with a 1-0 home defeat against France. They then suffered a heavy 4-1 loss to Italy on home soil, followed by a 3-0 defeat away to Belgium and another 3-1 loss to Italy.
The string of defeats ultimately ended the federation’s confidence in Montella.
From Euro 2024 Success to a Difficult Spell
Montella initially made a positive impression after taking charge of Turkey in September 2023. Under his leadership, the team reached the quarter-finals of UEFA Euro 2024, raising hopes of further progress on the international stage.
However, Turkey struggled to maintain that momentum in the UEFA Nations League. Despite the disappointment of exiting the World Cup at the group stage during June and July, the federation had continued to back the Italian coach.
The latest run of four defeats proved to be a major setback, leading to his departure.
With no successor announced so far, attention now turns to who will take charge of Turkey as the team looks to recover from its recent struggles and rebuild ahead of its upcoming international commitments.
