Champions League final in Barcelona after 30 years; showdown at Camp Nou in 2029.

A long wait is coming to an end. After nearly 30 years, the Champions League final—the most prestigious match in European club football—is set to return to Barcelona's iconic Camp Nou. This historic stadium has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2029 men's Champions League final. The decision was made during a UEFA Executive Committee meeting in Thessaloniki, Greece.

The last time Camp Nou hosted the Champions League final was in 1999. Memories of that match remain vivid for football fans. Bayern Munich took an early lead in the 6th minute, but Manchester United staged a dramatic comeback in the dying moments; goals from Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjær secured a 2-1 victory and the trophy.

Munich to host the 2028 final

Before the 2029 event, Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena will host the 2028 Champions League final. This will mark the third time the stadium decides the champion of Europe's elite clubs, following the finals held there in 2012 and 2025.

Munich's Olympic Stadium has also previously hosted the Champions League final on three occasions.

Meanwhile, Atlético Madrid's Metropolitano Stadium has already been selected to host the final of the current season.

Camp Nou to be transformed after renovation

Although the Champions League final is returning to Camp Nou, the stadium's renovation work is not yet fully complete. Tasks such as constructing the third tier of the stands and installing the roof remain pending.

According to the plan, the renovation is scheduled for completion by 2027. Once finished, the stadium's capacity will rise to approximately 105,000 spectators. Consequently, a massive crowd is expected at one of Europe's grandest football stages for the 2029 final.

Women's Champions League final venue also confirmed

At the same meeting in Thessaloniki, UEFA announced venues for several other major finals. The 2028 Women's Champions League final will be held at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais in Lyon, France. The National Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, will host the 2029 final.

The 2028 Europa League final will take place at the National Arena in Bucharest, Romania. The following year—2029—the competition's final will be held at the National Stadium in Belgrade, Serbia.

Conference League finals in Turin and Budapest

Juventus Stadium in Turin, Italy, will host the 2028 UEFA Conference League final. The 2029 final will be held at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary.

Additionally, venues for the 2027 and 2028 UEFA Super Cups have been determined. The 2027 Super Cup will take place at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam, while the 2028 match will be held at the Astana Arena in Kazakhstan.

The Biel/Bienne Arena in Switzerland will host the 2027 Futsal Champions League final.

However, Camp Nou is the venue generating the most buzz. There is no doubt that the 2029 Champions League final at this historic Barcelona stadium—reborn in a new guise following renovations—will once again become one of the grandest spectacles in European football.
