Harry Kane wants to leave football and become an NFL kicker!

He is currently in the prime of his football career. He continues to score goal after goal for Bayern Munich and is even in the conversation for the Ballon d'Or. Yet, as he approaches the latter stages of his career, Harry Kane is contemplating a completely different challenge.

The England and Bayern Munich striker aspires to play as a 'kicker' in the US National Football League (NFL) in the future. He is even considering a stint in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a stepping stone toward that goal. The 33-year-old Kane revealed these plans while speaking to reporters at England's training camp on Wednesday.

NFL is more realistic than golf

Golf is one of Kane's favorite sports outside of football. However, he views the prospect of becoming an NFL kicker as more realistic than pursuing a professional career in golf.

Kane stated that a lot depends on the trajectory of his football career over the next five or six years. Nevertheless, he is giving serious thought to the idea of ​​transitioning to American football.

"I’ll give it some serious thought. It all depends on where my career goes over the next five or six years. But moving to the NFL is much more realistic than golf."

Kane's line of thinking is also influenced by his extensive experience taking penalties. He believes there are similarities in the pressure and technique involved in taking football penalties and the role of an NFL kicker.

'I would train for six months to a year'

However, Kane does not view becoming an NFL kicker as an easy task. Instead, he indicated that if the opportunity arose, he would undergo professional training for it.

"I take penalties, and the technique and pressure management in both sports are somewhat similar. In terms of training, it might be easier for me than other sports," Kane said.

At the same time, the English star acknowledged that professional sports often look easier on television than they actually are in reality.

His plan is that, should he decide to pursue the NFL, he would undergo specialized training for a period of six months to a year. MLS Could Bridge the Two Sports

The most intriguing aspect of Kane's plan involves the MLS. He envisions a future where playing for a US-based MLS club could allow him to pursue both sports simultaneously by leveraging the differing schedules of the football and American football seasons.

"If I were to play in the MLS or somewhere similar in the future, there might be an opportunity to coordinate the seasons of both sports," Kane said.

However, he has no immediate plans to leave European football. Instead, he is moving forward with plans to stay at Bayern Munich for the long term.

New Deal with Bayern Nearing Completion

Discussions regarding a new contract are underway before his current deal with Bayern expires. According to Kane, talks between the two parties have been positive, and an official announcement is not far off.

"We are quite close. There are just a few minor details left to iron out. I am happy there. I don't think we'll have to wait long for an official announcement," Kane stated.

Kane scored a total of 73 goals for Bayern and England during the 2025-26 season, marking one of the best campaigns of his career. That performance has also placed him in the conversation for the 2026 Ballon d'Or.
