Mbappe Says Playing for France Until 41 Like Ronaldo Is Unlikely

Cristiano Ronaldo’s longevity continues to impress Kylian Mbappe, but the France captain does not expect to follow his idol by playing international football until the age of 41.

Ronaldo, now 41, remains involved with Portugal and has continued to compete at the highest level. Mbappe has previously spoken about the Portuguese star as one of his role models and acknowledged what Ronaldo has achieved through his physical and mental preparation.

However, the Real Madrid forward believes his own international career is unlikely to last that long.

‘France Would Never Let Me Play at 41’

Asked by German outlet Bild whether he could continue playing for France at Ronaldo’s age, Mbappe gave a straightforward response.

“Honestly, considering the country I play for, it’s not possible. France would never let me play at 41.”

Mbappe nevertheless praised Ronaldo for proving that elite football can be sustained for many years with the right physical and mental preparation.

“Cristiano has proved that if you are physically and mentally fit, you can continue playing at this level for a long time. But in my case, I don’t see that happening,” the 27-year-old said.

Mbappe Backs Mourinho

Mbappe has performed well individually since joining Real Madrid but has yet to add a major trophy with the club. Despite a less convincing start to the season, the France captain has expressed confidence in Jose Mourinho.

“Jose Mourinho is extremely intelligent. That is why he has achieved so much in his career,” Mbappe said.

He also praised Mourinho’s ability to understand players, lead a dressing room and get the best out of his squad.

France Begin Nations League Campaign

France will begin their Nations League campaign against Türkiye tomorrow.

With Mbappe wearing the captain’s armband, the French side will look to start the new campaign strongly as the forward continues to establish his own legacy rather than simply following the career path of Ronaldo.
