Manchester City have been found guilty on 114 of the 115 financial-rule charges brought against them by the Premier League, according to a report by The Athletic. However, no final sanction has yet been decided, meaning the club’s previous titles are not currently being stripped.

An independent commission reportedly ruled against City on all but one of the 115 charges. The next stage will focus on potential sanctions, which could range from a fine or points deduction to expulsion from the Premier League in the most severe scenario.

City are expected to appeal the decision, while the club maintains that the Premier League process is still ongoing.

What Were Manchester City Accused Of?

The Premier League’s case relates largely to the period between 2009 and 2018. City were accused of failing to provide accurate financial information, including details concerning payments to players and coaches.

The case also involved alleged breaches of financial regulations and claims that the club failed to cooperate fully with the Premier League’s investigation.

The controversy intensified after German magazine Der Spiegel published leaked Manchester City financial documents in November 2018. Following a lengthy investigation, the Premier League formally charged City with 115 breaches in February 2023.
