Real Madrid Beat Elche 3-2 With Dramatic Late Winner
Real Madrid appeared to be cruising toward a comfortable victory after taking a 2-0 lead, but Elche produced a dramatic comeback in the final stages. After conceding twice in the last 20 minutes to level the score, Real found a late winner through Ispi in stoppage time to secure a thrilling 3-2 victory away from home.
Real made a strong start and opened the scoring in the 25th minute through Arda Guler. His free-kick from outside the penalty area took a touch off Elche goalkeeper Matias Dituro before finding the net.
Just eight minutes later, Kylian Mbappe doubled Real's advantage. The French forward finished from an assist delivered from the right side as Real looked firmly in control.
Mbappe thought he had scored again before half-time, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Had it stood, the closing stages could have been very different.
Elche Fight Back in the Final 20 Minutes
Elche pulled one goal back in the 71st minute when forward Abiel Osorio headed the ball into the net, giving the home side renewed hope.
Their comeback was completed in the 88th minute. Substitute forward Fern Nino produced a superb right-footed finish from inside the box to make it 2-2.
With the home crowd expecting to celebrate a point, Real Madrid responded in stoppage time.
In the first minute of added time, Ispi restored Real's lead after receiving an assist from Mbappe. His effort struck the post before going into the net, with the ball also touching the feet of Elche's Argentine goalkeeper Matias Dituro.
The late strike secured a dramatic 3-2 victory for Real Madrid and denied Elche a point after their impressive comeback.
Real Madrid Move to 15 Points
The victory takes Real Madrid to 15 points from six matches. Barcelona also have 15 points and remain ahead on goal difference, although they have played one fewer match.
After appearing set for a straightforward win, Real Madrid were forced to fight until the final moments before finally securing all three points.
