In a recent interview, Yamal stated that the Ballon d'Or should go to the world's best footballer—not just someone who has scored 80 goals. Many interpreted this comment as being directed at Kane.

Kane has been in sensational form during the 2025-26 season, scoring 73 goals across all competitions for club and country. Last Friday, the English forward reached his 100-goal milestone in the Bundesliga during Bayern's 7-0 victory over Union Berlin.

When asked about Yamal's comments after the match, Kane said, "I don't know what he meant. Yamal is an amazing player. He has had a fantastic season, just like many others have."

Kane also believes there are several contenders for the Ballon d'Or. Mentioning Kylian Mbappé, Rodri, and his Bayern teammate Michael Olise, he noted that everyone has the right to express their opinion and it is not his place to control that.

The England captain made it clear that he has no desire to engage in a war of words over individual awards. He stated that he is more focused on performing on the pitch than talking about himself, adding that it is natural for people to have differing opinions on the Ballon d'Or.

However, Bayern's sporting director Max Eberl took a somewhat firmer stance on the issue. Responding to Yamal's comments, he remarked that the best players do not need to campaign for themselves. At the same time, Eberl has also named another Bayern star, Michael Olise, as a contender for the Ballon d'Or. In his view, the French winger is also one of the best players in the world.

Meanwhile, amidst all the discussion and speculation, Kane wants to remain focused on his own performance. Regarding the Ballon d'Or, he says he is enjoying the entire process and is eager to see the outcome. For now, his goal is simply to keep doing his job on the pitch.
