Atletico Madrid claimed a dramatic victory in the Madrid derby, defeating 10-man Real Madrid 2-1 at the Metropolitano. The result lifted Diego Simeone’s side above their city rivals in the La Liga standings.

The opening half was a cautious and tactical battle, with neither side willing to take unnecessary risks. The game gradually opened up after the first half-hour, with both teams creating moments around the penalty areas.

Real Madrid made changes in an attempt to get back into the contest, but playing with 10 men made the task increasingly difficult. Kylian Mbappe had a chance from a free-kick in the 76th minute, but Oblak comfortably gathered the ball.

Real finally gave themselves hope in the 89th minute. Antonio Rudiger rose highest to head home from Bernardo Silva’s free-kick, cutting Atletico’s lead to 2-1.

The visitors pushed desperately for an equaliser during the closing stages, but Atletico held firm to secure a memorable derby victory.

The win takes Atletico Madrid to 16 points after seven matches, moving them into second place. Real Madrid remain third with 15 points, while Barcelona lead the table with 21 points.

The 2-1 result marked another memorable chapter in the 244th Madrid derby between the two clubs.
