Manchester City Survive Eight-Goal Thriller to Beat Sunderland 5-3

Manchester City and Sunderland produced one of the most entertaining games of the Premier League round as eight goals were scored at the Etihad Stadium.

City eventually came out on top with a 5–3 victory, despite Sunderland’s Brian Brobbey scoring a hat-trick. The result strengthens City’s position at the top of the Premier League and moves them three points clear of second-placed Arsenal.

City Strike First, Sunderland Hit Back

Manchester City made an aggressive start and took the lead in the ninth minute.

Enzo Fernandez stepped up for a free-kick and produced an excellent finish to put the hosts ahead. It was his first goal since joining City from Chelsea.

Sunderland responded quickly, however. Enzo Le Fee delivered an excellent pass for Brian Brobbey, who kept his composure to level the score.

The visitors continued to cause problems and refused to sit back, but City regained the advantage late in the first half when Antoine Semenyo produced a fine finish.

The opening 45 minutes had already produced five goals, setting up a thrilling second half.

Brobbey Completes His Hat-Trick

City extended their advantage after the break when Semenyo struck again.

A pass from Marc Guehi eventually found Semenyo, who cut inside and fired a left-footed effort into the far corner to make it 4–2.

Sunderland responded almost immediately.

Granit Xhaka’s pass released Nilson Angulo, who found Brobbey in space. The Dutch forward made no mistake from close range, completing his hat-trick and reducing the deficit to 4–3.

The game then entered a tense final phase as Sunderland pushed for an equaliser.

The visitors even came close after a mistake from City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, but Ruben Dias reacted quickly to prevent the danger from developing.

Haaland Seals the Win

City finally secured the points in the 81st minute.

Josko Gvardiol delivered a cross into the box and Erling Haaland finished from close range to make it 5–3.

The goal initially appeared to be ruled out for offside, but a VAR review overturned the decision and awarded City the goal.

The strike also saw Haaland complete a notable Premier League scoring milestone by finding the net against every opponent he has faced in the competition.

Sunderland’s impressive attacking display and Brobbey’s hat-trick ultimately counted for nothing as City held on for another important victory.

Isak Gives Liverpool Victory

Bournemouth 0–1 Liverpool

Liverpool also picked up three points on the same day, securing a narrow 1–0 victory away to Bournemouth.

Alexander Isak scored the only goal of the match to settle a much tighter contest than the eight-goal thriller at the Etihad.

Unlike the City-Sunderland encounter, the Bournemouth-Liverpool game remained controlled for long periods, with neither side able to create a high-scoring contest.

In the end, Isak’s decisive finish was enough to give Liverpool all three points.

Manchester City therefore strengthened their position at the top of the Premier League with a thrilling win over Sunderland, while Liverpool also secured an important away victory thanks to Isak’s solitary goal.
