Hasan Mahmud and Khaled Ahmed had previously played together for Kent in county cricket. While Hasan has since returned home due to national team commitments, Khaled has continued to represent Bangladesh in the county circuit—and has done so with impressive dominance.

Today in Canterbury, Khaled Ahmed delivered a magnificent bowling performance against Lancashire, claiming five wickets. His fiery spell saw Lancashire bowled out for just 161 runs in their first innings.

Lancashire started well

After losing the toss and coming in to bat, Lancashire made a solid start. Keaton Jennings and his partner put together an opening stand of 81 runs before Khaled provided the breakthrough.

The opening partnership was broken when Jennings was caught out off Khaled's bowling. Khaled then claimed his second wicket by trapping Rocky Flintoff—son of former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff—LBW before he could open his account.

Lancashire soon found themselves under pressure, losing five wickets in the span of just 34 runs.

Two wickets in two balls during the 16th over

Amidst Lancashire's collapse, Matty Hurst attempted to offer some resistance. Khaled claimed his third wicket by having Hurst—who scored 37 off 61 balls—caught at slip.

He then took two more wickets in consecutive deliveries during his 16th over. The Bangladeshi pacer sent Mitchell Stanley back to the pavilion first, followed immediately by Lancashire captain James Anderson on the very next ball.

With that, Khaled completed his five-wicket haul.

15.5 overs, 4 maidens, 42 runs, 5 wickets—Khaled set a benchmark for excellent bowling in just his second county cricket match.

Tenth five-wicket haul in first-class cricket

This marks the tenth time Khaled Ahmed has taken five wickets in a first-class innings. However, this is his first five-wicket haul in county cricket.

Hasan Mahmud had previously achieved the feat of taking five wickets for Kent; now, Khaled has also added his name to that list while playing for the same team. Although Hasan returned home due to national team commitments, Khaled’s performance against Lancashire demonstrated that Bangladesh’s pace attack continues to make a strong impression in the County Championship.
