A regret of just one run! This is a lament that might haunt Kieron Pollard even after his career ends; the Caribbean all-rounder fell just one run short of the historic 15,000-run milestone in T20 cricket. Now, Jos Buttler has reached that very milestone.
On Thursday, during the second T20 match of the series against Sri Lanka, the England captain achieved the remarkable feat of amassing 15,000 runs.
Before the series began, Buttler needed 110 runs to reach the 15,000-run mark in T20s. He significantly narrowed the gap in the first match by playing a destructive innings of 80 runs off 44 balls. Subsequently, he reached the coveted milestone while scoring 30 runs in the second match.
Buttler was dismissed after scoring 30 runs, but by then, the English star had already secured his place in the exclusive club of players with 15,000 T20 runs.
Following Buttler and Pollard, another English batter, Alex Hales, holds the third spot on the list of highest run-scorers in T20 cricket, with a tally of 14,581 runs.
Chris Gayle, known as the 'Bradman of T20s', concluded his career with 14,562 runs. Right behind him is former Australian opener David Warner, who has accumulated 14,284 runs.
In essence, while Pollard missed the 15,000-run milestone by a mere single run, Buttler has fulfilled that unachieved ambition and earned his spot in T20 cricket's elite club.
