After the unforgettable 9-wicket win in Darwin, the expectations are now much higher. Mackay's pace-supporting condition, on the other hand, Australia, which is in a hurry to save the series - all this has Bangladesh fans dreaming of something big in the second Test. However, captain Nazmul Hossain is more focused on playing good cricket than results for now.
While in Bangladesh, Nazmul has repeatedly said that his team wants to 'play good cricket'. He said the same thing when he came to Australia. The captain remained steadfast in that position at the press conference after practice at the Great Barrier Reef Arena the day before the Mackay Test.
Nazmul said, 'We want to play good cricket. We want to play good cricket on all five days of the Test. How well we play cricket each day, each session, is important. I think if we follow the process properly, the results will come. So, we will try to play good cricket without looking at the results.'
Nazmul also admitted that the historic victory in Darwin has given the team confidence. However, according to him, professional cricketers have to quickly get out of the preoccupation of the previous match.
‘A win will definitely give you confidence. But it is important for professional players to come back from there very quickly,’ he said.
In other words, the Darwin victory is now a thing of the past for Bangladesh. Nazmul and his team want to start the new Test in Mackay afresh. The captain is also satisfied with the team’s preparation after two days of full practice.
Nazmul said, ‘The preparation has been good. Yes, the weather is a little different. It is a little colder than there, and the wind is also stronger. But I think everyone has got a fairly good idea in the two days of practice.’
Adapting to the new conditions was one of the main goals of the practice. Nazmul believes that after the preparation, everyone is mentally ready for the second Test.
Meanwhile, the team’s minor injury problems are also under control for the time being. Mushfiqur Rahim batted again yesterday despite injuring his finger. He also batted in the nets today, although for a slightly shorter time.
Opener Tanjid Hasan, who scored a century in Darwin, did not practice batting yesterday due to a stiff neck. However, he returned to the field today after undergoing a scan and batted in the nets. However, his scan report was not known at the time of writing.
Soumya Sarkar has also kept himself ready as an alternative due to uncertainty about Tanjid. This batsman, who was out of the XI in the first Test, practiced batting for a long time today.
Nazmul said that a final decision about Tanjid will be taken on the morning of the match. He said, "Today is positive. However, we want to see a little more until tomorrow morning. Hopefully he will be fine. We have all kinds of options, so I don't think there will be much of a problem."
Overall, there is a lot of relief in the Bangladesh camp before the second Test. In Nazmul's words, "Mushfiqur bhai is fine so far. Tanjid also batted today. All in all, I think we can make a good decision tomorrow morning.’
So the aim for Bangladesh in Mackay is clear – to start fresh, not thinking about Darwin’s win, to play good cricket for five consecutive days and, when the opportunity arises, to bring the result in their favour.
